I have learnt the most when I had a to get something done I hadn’t done before. My experience of business school teaching was mixed; it was interesting but not often applicable directly to the complexity of most business problems. To me it is not surprising that many new graduates lack the skills and confidence to flourish as entrepreneurs.

Promoting resilience, self reliance, innovation and ingenuity, putting students in charge of their own learning is the aim of Akatemia CIC, a not for profit company I have founded with Alison Fletcher and supported by Pulse. Our aim to create university degree programmes where creating and running an enterprise is the heart of the degree, no lectures, just hands in the dirt and learning by doing.

Akatemia supported the establishment of degree programmes at the Bristol and Newcastle Business Schools in 2013, two more departments will open in 2014.
